True to Nature

 True to Nature

True To Nature is a new disability-led theatre/dance production currently in collaborative development between members of the Weird Nest Youth Ensemble and experienced adult artists within Weird Nest company – some who live with disability themselves. In the meta-text sense, this new work will depict an epic journey that a group of young people have shared, across several years, as they venture deeper into the 'wilderness' of maturing towards adulthood via an unprecedented global pandemic.

The on-stage story involves a group of young people who, with their guides, embark upon a well-earned 2-day holiday. They trek through a biodiverse forest, aiming for a secluded beach the following day. On their way they set up camp in a clearing for the night and fall deep into a shared, vivid dream, each of them transformed into fantastical marine animals who thrive in complex harmony.

Throughout this trek they learn a great deal about the nature of friendship and the uplifting benefits of sticking with a long-term collaboration of creative self-expression. In this wilderness, they share in the utter joy of showing off their creative ideas to one another, whilst hoping to be able to express them to a wider audience via public performance.

For the audience this is, of course, actually happening in front of them.
